Senator Blanche Lincoln Meets with Representative of the Asphalt Roofing Manufacturers Association
Arkadelphia, AR – U.S. Senator Blanche Lincoln of Arkansas met with representatives from the Asphalt Roofing Manufacturers Association (ARMA), and representatives from the National Roofing Contractors Association in Arkadelphia on August 11, 2009 at the manufacturing plant of Siplast, an ARMA member.
Senator Lincoln toured the Siplast plant and observed the processes that are used to manufacture asphalt roofing products. Afterwards she met with ARMA representatives and roofing industry executives to discuss the relationship between roofing materials and building energy-efficiency. She spoke about recent legislative proposals such as the Green Roofing Energy Efficiency Tax Act and other tax-related initiatives, and she took a number of questions from employees on issues ranging from health care reform to cap-and-trade legislation.
The meetings with ARMA representatives provided Senator Lincoln with an opportunity to learn firsthand about asphalt roofing products, their role in energy conservation and their importance to the economy of Arkansas. In particular, the plant tour underscored the performance and value of asphalt roofing with regard to building energy-efficiency and sustainable development.
Senator Lincoln is a member of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee as well as the Senate Finance Committee. Consequently, in the months ahead, she will play a key role in shaping legislation on energy reform and climate change as well as federal government incentive programs.
